Who are we?

We're passionate about advancing carbon projects in the Western Balkans.

By fostering partnerships with governments, businesses, and project developers, WBCI aims to highlight carbon projects and advocate for the development of carbon markets in the Western Balkans. WBCI will foster a regional ecosystem and serve as a focal point for international partnerships, with activities including capacity building, technical assistance, and the promotion of innovative carbon pricing mechanisms.

Recognizing potential

The Western Balkans hold significant potential for impactful carbon projects that can drive sustainable development across the region. Through the efforts of WBCI, awareness is being raised about how these countries can leverage carbon finance mechanisms and voluntary carbon markets to attract international investments. By engaging in carbon trading and earning carbon credits, the Western Balkans can unlock the resources needed to fund further sustainable development projects, transforming the region into a beacon of environmental and economic progress.

“With abundant forests, rich biodiversity, and vast agricultural lands, the region is well-suited for initiatives in reforestation, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy. By leveraging these natural resources and engaging in carbon finance mechanisms, the Western Balkans can effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote sustainable development, and contribute to global climate goals.” - Bledar Beqiri, Founder

Carbon financing seems to be the real leverage for investing in decarbonisation. The region needs to access project-based carbon financing. We believe it would be great to find such option inside the EU.
